Matariki is a star cluster which appears in the night sky during mid-winter and signals the Māori New Year. Matariki is a time to gather with family and friends to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and plan for the future.

Come along with your child to learn, move and have fun together.  Each yoga class will include...
  • Mindful Breathing - to help get you settled and focussed
  • Yoga Poses - aligned with our Matariki theme so you can move and learn together
  • Partner yoga with your child/ren - get connected and have fun together
  • Relaxation - allow yourself to relax and let go
Celebrate Matariki in 2018 by practicing yoga and connecting with your child/ren.  The cost for the six-week series is $125 for one parent and child attending together.  If you wish to bring an additional child/ren, this will be an extra $30 per child.  Spaces are limited.  We have plenty of yoga mats available for you to use.

Matariki is a time of renewal and celebration in New Zealand that begins with the rising of the Matariki star cluster (the Pleiades or Seven Sisters).
There are many legends about the star cluster Matariki. One of the most popular is that the star Matariki is the whaea (mother), surrounded by her six daughters, Tupu-ā-nuku, Tupu-ā-rangi, Waipunarangi, Waitī and Waitā, and Ururangi.

Matariki and her daughters journey across the sky each year to visit their tupuna wahine (great grandmother), Papatūānuku (Mother Earth).

During this visit, each of the stars help Papatūānuku to prepare for the year to come, using their unique qualities or gifts to bring mauri (life force or energy) to her different environments. Whilst spending time with their kuia (grandmother), they also learn new skills and gain new knowledge from her, which they guard and pass on to others.  Source: Te Papa
